He Saved the Best for Last

I squared my shoulders, held my head up high;

I’d searched and searched, ready to give up with a sigh.

Guess this is just not for me.

At the last, on a whim, I addressed a smart-aleck man

Whose profile summoned a giggle, lifted my spirits - and

Something told me I just couldn’t pass.

I didn’t expect H2R, you would answer,

And now it seems I’ve been blessed with a great treasure,

The best love of all.

Your dedication to God brings the highest respect,

Your intelligence I admire, and have come to expect.

You are my best friend.

I love to watch laughter light up your eyes,

For our eternal connection there is no disguise.

Your kind, loving heart shines through your macho side,

The best combination of all.

Through the years of trial and pain,

God has been sculpting each through thunder and rain.

We are now on our way to becoming

The best He wants us to be.

Those years - not all waste, nor our lives a mistake,

The tapestry He’s been weaving we will thankfully take;

And enjoy the best He saved ‘til last.

I love you not because you need me, not because you want to rescue me, but wholly for whom you are.

The best that He saved for last.
